Jehovah

Monday, September 28th, 2009

The English word Jehovah was used by the translators of the King James Version in referring to the Hebrew name for God. However, this word form was an improper interpretation which resulted from a lack of understanding regarding the Jewish scribal rules as practiced by the Masoretes.

The Masoretes, in an attempt not to profane God’s name, used an alternative or hybrid form of the word in order to preserve the holiness and sacredness of God’s name when pronounced.

This word derivative evolved by using the tetragrammaton YHWH  which are the four consonants of God’s name and combined them with the vowel signs  for Lord (Adonai) which resulted in the word “Y’howah”.

The name of God was further altered by using the English transliteration of the word Jehovah which was not always consistent in every scriptural reference and therefore the usage of this name had alternative forms as recorded in the Masoretic text.

So today when a Jew vocally reads from the Tanakh and he comes across the Hebrew name for God ( יהוה )  he will not pronounce God’s name but instead he will substitute the word for Lord(אדני) in its place.

Religious Jews whenever they invoke God’s name in a personal conversation will only say God, Lord, or HaShem(The Name). They wouldn’t even think of trying to pronounce God’s actual name or its hybrid form.

Also when Jews write the name of God they use the words L-rd / G-d instead of Lord or God out of respect for His name.

All these conceptual ideas originated and were practiced by the Jews who were the original bearers of the ancient Hebrew text. On this point an individual can differ on whether or not they are right in keeping with these scribal laws but one thing is for certain and that is that God’s name was never Jehovah and therefore no ancient Israelite would have ever used or understood this name when referring to God. In addition to this, there aren’t any ancient Hebrew consonants that would reflect a sound for the letter “J”.

Dr. Michael Brown, who has his PhD in Semitic languages, along with other leading scholars interpret God’s name as being Yahweh and to pronounce it in English it would sound more like Jahveh.

If a person really wants to more accurately speak God’s real name you would need to pronounce it according to its original Hebraic context which is definably more accurate based on the biblical text. The reason for the proper usage of names in Hebrew is because the words being uttered have symbolic meaning which in this case was relevant to God’s character. The name of God was never understood to have some type of meaning based on a mystical experience of uttering or chanting  meaningless sounds nor was it a matter of formulating a  phonetically or rhythmic style of wording that only had a sense of aesthetic value but  rather a name served as a purposeful or defining feature to the individual.

The etymology of God’s name based on the Hebrew word interprets His name as the causative form of the root” to be” which depicts Him as the One who causes things to be or who makes things happen.

Another example to the significance of using biblical names is reflected in the name of Jesus or Yeshua(ישוע) which is the Hebrew-Aramaic form of His name. Yeshua is a shortened form of the English word Joshua (Yehoshua) which means Yahweh is salvation.

In conclusion, if the accuracy of using God’s name holds a specific value due to its proper pronouncement and usage and therefore becomes a critical element in properly identifying God or representing a movement then the English transliterated word Jehovah only becomes a distortion  and an inaccuracy when pronouncing His name.

In reality I am not even sure if we precisely know how to pronounce God’s name so therefore the most correct use or proper way of handling God’s literal name is by avoiding the pitfalls of vocalization by keeping to the simplicity of the written word in designating God’s name as יהוה and even this is not completely adequate since the Hebrew script has undergone various transitional changes down through the ages of time.

Finally in being a witness of God’s name, it is far less critical in adjusting the fine tuning of semantics with all of its rigors of speech and script than it is to accurately portray a biblical concept of the grandeur of His glorious person and work which should leave us with a sense of awe beyond the confines of speech.

Jehovah’s Witness

In this blog I would like to address the founders of this movement or cult namely Charles Russell and Joseph Rutherford.

At first glance when I saw this duo of leadership I immediately thought of a correlation with Mormonism and its two infamous leaders Joseph Smith and Brigham Young.

These people were literally visionaries to the success of their organizations. Both of these movements were established in the 19th century and they both singled out the controversies that were prevalent in their day which resulted in them obtaining a platform to herald their new founded(restored) religions.

My challenge to either group is that since they both deviate radically from mainline Christendom and they both claim they have the ultimate truth then which of these two are exclusively right?

Anyway I believe that a movement is only as valid as the integrity of its founder. The Jehovah Witnesses would like to dissociate their past or beginnings with the “Pastor” or Russell and yet there would not be a movement today had it not been for Russell’s efforts.

Perhaps some of the reasons why Russell had been rejected was based on the fact that  he was a  shady character and also because Rutherford denounced many of Russell’s teachings.

I find it amazing that in God’s sovereignty of restoring  truth that he would have even bothered to use such an infallible person like Russell. Why didn’t He just use Rutherford to broadcast His message to others to begin with. Just the fact that the movement can not establish a solid base of leadership in its formation shows its instability which upon observation should be viewed with skepticism.

One thing about contemporary religions or cults is that their truth claims can be weighed or critiqued more readily due to the modern era of communication and record keeping which helps in keeping people honest.

To begin with some of the things that hurt Russell’s credibility was his failure in regards to jurisprudence. He filed suit on a couple of occasions and every time the charges were either dropped or thrown out of court.

One of these cases was the fraudulent claims concerning the “Miracle Wheat” scandal of which he claimed would produce and yield as much as fives times the amount as ordinary wheat and therefore he sold this grain at an inflated price.

However when government officials tested it for its quality they claimed it was low in their testings.

Another court incident was in 1912 when Russell attempted to sue Reverend JJ Ross for publishing a pamphlet on Russell. Russell countered by taking Ross to court with a charge of defamatory libel. All Russell had to do to win his case was to substantiate or provide evidence concerning the allegations against him that had been made in the publication by Ross.

These claims, of which Russell was accused of, was due to an insufficiency in regards to his education, theological training, knowledge of the dead languages such as Hebrew and Greek, and the fact that he was not ordained or had the credentials to be ordained by a recognized body of leadership. All these claims made by Ross were denied by Russell  and now the court proceedings would have to arbitrate in deciphering the truth.

From this court case the thing that really destroyed the reliability of Russell’s character  was the fact that he perjured himself.

When questioned about his education he claimed he had left school at the age of 14 and therefore he had not attained to a higher level of education.

Also He claimed knowledge of the dead languages and when questioned about in court concerning the Greek alphabet he finally admitted that he did not know Greek.

Now as far as his ordination was concerned it was discovered that he considered himself to be self ordained.

Lastly he lied under oath that he was divorced and that he was paying alimony to his former wife.

After Russell’s death in 1916 he was succeeded by Joseph Rutherford who would take the mantle of leadership in establishing what is now known today as the Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Rutherford though not rejecting every doctrinal teaching of Russell did change, challenge or overturn the rulings of former Russellite doctrine.

Amazingly enough even though the Jehovah Witnesses have made claims to be free from the influence of Russell’s teachings there are still overtones that are embodied within their statements of beliefs and Russell’s teachings were still used as late as 1973 in one of the Watchtower publications.

We must still remember that Russell was the very cornerstone of this movement and without him their would not be a foundation in which to build the Kingdom Hall.

Now concerning Rutherford he was said to be of questionable character by several people who were closely associated with him. One of these individuals was Olin Moyle who was the legal council and he had confronted Rutherford about his inebriated episodes as well as the use of vulgarity, discriminatory language, and outbursts of anger.

In addition to these claims came his luxurious lifestyle having obtained many residences and like Russell his wife divorced him after He took  the role of leadership in this movement.

It appears that the “Judge” had some questionable character traits as well which when combined with his heretical teachings shows that the fruit didn’t fall too far from the tree.

A list of the teachings would include:

A full restoration of mankind in 1925 along with the resurrection of some of the biblical patriarchs which later developed into him building Beth Sarim in 1929. Beth Sarim would know serve to house these prophets and the faithful men of old. Later Rutherford recanted his position on his belief.

Instead of Christ returning in 1878, which was the date set by original founder, Rutherford took the liberty to move it up to the year 1914.

In 1927 Rutherford moved the date of the resurrection of the “sleeping saints” which was said to have taken place between 1878-1918.

In 1933 Rutherford changed His 1918 assessment concerning the Jews being restored to what was then called Palestine. As you know Israel became a state in 1948 and if he would of just held out a little longer then his original prediction would have been right.

Also Rutherford took a stance against the rise of the women’s movement and said that the tipping of the hat or standing when a woman approaches was a scheme of the devil to turn men from God. Also included within his disfavor was the celebration of Mother’s Day.

In 1938 he urged followers to delay marriage and child bearing until after Armageddon.

In conclusion to analyzing the character and teachings of these men it would be hard to establish their authenticity and veracity as agents or receptacles of God’s revelatory truth. Based on the evidence would you really want to trust your eternal souls to their teachings which have failed to be substantiated through the evidential testimonies of the people, courts, media, and even their own publications.

Its bad enough that there is a lack of corroboration between these two parties and if  one character can be questioned then why not both ? Who is the agent of truth here ? Is it the originator or the successor?

All I ask is that you do the research in verifying these statements and then allow the evidence to speak for itself or to lead you into the direction of truth.

To do further studies on the subject you may refer to some of the references I used in Wikipedia or by utilizing Walter Martin’s book on “The Kingdom of the Cults” for further information.

Lastly this is not intended to be a smear campaign and I hope you see this as a generous effort to warn you for your own good and benefit.

Finally in 2 Peter 2:1-3 it says:

But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2 Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. 3 In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

Is God Unknowable?

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

The Bible depicts the Apostle Paul as making a defense on Mars Hill to the Athenians who were a religious brood of philosophers with varying beliefs.

During Paul’s stay in Greece he took notice of an altar that was dedicated to the “Unknown God.”

He used this very platform as an opportunity to begin his exposition to these Stoics and Epicureans who were questioning these novel ideas of Paul which seemed to advocate to them a foreign god.

Paul’s approach in gaining a hearing among these intellectuals was to share with them the revelation of this God who was unbeknown to them but was in reality “Knowable”.

This is one of the premises against agnosticism which assumes a philosophical reality about God because of a lack of experiential knowledge and concludes by making a transcendent claim concerning having no knowledge of God.

This absolute sense of agnosticism denies any possibility to having an understanding of God and yet this position can not be substantiated because of the finitude of the creature and his inability to attain perfect knowledge concerning the reality of God as being “Unknowable”.

The irony behind such a position is that in order to make a statement of reality about God this would presuppose a knowledge concerning the one who is defined as being “Unknowable”.

This is a parallel position to the dilemma of the Atheist who like the Agnostic is not a perfectly comprehensive being because of the lack of absolute knowledge and therefore the existence and belief in or knowability of God becomes plausible.

To say that God does not exist or that God is not knowable are statements that are reduced to positions of belief and faith which we as theists have been criticized for. Minimally a person can only really claim that they possess a limited or restricted view of God and I believe that this is the only logical outcome to this equation.

In conjunction with this viewpoint the bible supports this concept by making a reference to this idea concerning a general revelation about God and yet this has been tampered with by the spirit of this age in adulterating or diluting its message by the modern philosophical advancements of evolutionary theory.

In spite of this God’s handiwork is to be observed as being the necessary agent and the original cause to the effect of creation. This created order is dynamically placed on display both night and day as seen through the receptacles of the optic nerve. This magnificence and awesome splendor can be plainly viewed and observed as a portrayal of intelligent design that meticulously defines the presence of fine tuning of which is  communicated and understood as a universal language as referred to in Psalms 19.

In addition to this, Romans 1 and 2 also gives us a snapshot view of both the realities of creation coupled with the universality of morality and conscious of which mankind is innately hardwired for, and even if this has been challenged by the philosophical advent of relativism, these moral laws still have an effect on the tender young lives of humanity and the societies of which mankind rules or reigns.

In conclusion a general revelation beckons to the call in obtaining and securing a special revelation which is tangible to a personal reality of ultimate truth.

As a starting point to truth the scripture encourages us in Deuteronomy 4:29 to seek the Lord with all of our heart and with all our soul and we will find Him. In this regard we must be a genuine seeker otherwise we may find ourselves entangled within the web of counterfeit religions, cults, and a worldly system of philosophy which competes for the allegiance and the worship of men who need to connect with the divine.

Finally whatever beliefs you securely hold to as being sacred to your person I would ask for you to take a reevaluation of your position with an attitude of introspection in seeing what  is the true goal or motivation behind your core set of beliefs regarding the God concept.

Perhaps what is really unknowable to you is the deception of the heart which only knows what it wants to know.

In closing one man who I approached concerning this matter was honest enough concerning his position on God to finally yield an answer which I believe showed a degree of integrity through his admission of guilt of which he simply stated that he wasn’t ready or really willing to consider the possibilities of a God.

Does hedonism promote happiness?

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Our culture says that if it feels good just do it. Hedonism encapsulates the very concept of this saying and packages it in a consumer driven fantasy world of selling pleasure as a means to achieving success or fulfillment.

One of the means of living this compulsion driven lifestyle is through the avenue of materialism. We have a saying in America that the one who has the most toys wins. Therefore a mans value and pursuits are fixated on the accumulation of stuff and wealth.

This philosophy also pursues other realms of experiential and sensual excesses which manifests itself in every facet of daily living.

We see the trademarks of its presence in other sectors as well such as work, sex, drugs, recreation, materialism, knowledge or whatever else a person can participate in that gives them the euphoria of pleasure while minimizing or avoiding pain.

Pain to the hedonist is an enemy to avoid and yet by living in this world it is impossible to avoid suffering and therefore by striving to avoid the inevitable by maximizing pleasure this only leads into a form of escapism which has no basis in reality.

Pain may be delayed but it is never denied and sooner or latter it catches up with all of us regardless of our endeavor to stay head of this grim reaper.

One destructive component to the philosophy of hedonism is the crass demonstration of victimizing others in order to achieve its goals.

Pure selfishness is the root of this spirit which elevates ones self to the position of a god that is to be served by the whims of its lustful yearnings.

We have such sayings as look out for #1 or nice guys finish last. Its always about competing to get whatever you desire regardless of the cost to society.

Yet a cost is always lurking around the corner as it was with the proverbial forbidden fruit in the garden of Eden which was to satisfy the cravings of sinful man ,the lust of the eyes, and the boasting of what one has or does.

This cost would ultimately be defined in bringing about the death sentence to creation resulting in a separation from God.

This cost is experienced on a very real and personal basis in our society today. We have seen lottery winners gain it all then lose it all, sexual prowess develops into sexually transmitted diseases or aids, obsessed career driven people become burned out earning for themselves the title “workaholic” only to one day find themselves retired or jobless, people looking for a “high”  and becoming drug addicts of which they are mastered and controlled  by a substance which only leads them to be more dependent upon higher dosages in order to obtain the same “fix” or effect.

This is the real crux to the whole matter anyway in which a person is striving for more and more novel experiences in order to satisfy the continual hunger pangs of these addictive cravings which instead of meals these experiences become no more than  appetizers which only leaves oneself hungry for the main course of “desire.”

In reality it becomes a chasing your tale or a chasing  after the wind which either leaves a person frustrated if they do not reach their goals or bored if they do.

Happiness is only momentarily achieved and it is often dependent upon circumstances. We value its intoxicating qualities by funneling and chugging its contents hoping to obtain or achieve the ultimate Miller definition of the “high life” the ultimate “buzz” of living yet we are only left too find out that just a few short hours away lies the reality of the pain which awakens us with the sobering effects of a hangover.

Do we learn though? No, and they get back on the “wagon” because this is the only trail they know and it  has left such a deep rut that they can’t break free from its pattern or course.

Happiness is a fleeting substance though obtained intermittently it is never fully apprehended or satisfied. It will will take you for a roller coaster ride only to be abruptly halted at the end of its circuit of ups and downs . Yet this endless ride of life leaves us rushing to get back in line once again only to relive a short term experience of exhilaration through this repetitious cycle of life.

So where does this madness end in going from one joy ride to another regarding this quest for the ultimate adventure? Unfortunately for many it never ends until the ride is fully terminated. This may sound dismal but there is hope beyond the amusement park of life.

The end result of Hedonism is self defeating yet we live a life that is gullible to its deceptive hold. Our lives were never created to find its reality in pleasure seeking but in the sustainable inner qualities of peace, love, and joy which are enduring.

These sources can not be found in the world’s system and any comparison in obtaining a counterfeit lifestyle to these qualities apart from God is purely synthetic.

Joy in God’s economy is defined as an inner disposition which is tangible during moments of great difficulty, trials or pain. Peace is a calm in the midst of the storm. Love  is an overflow which can not be contained.

In Christ we can have joy unspeakable and full of glory. We can obtain the peace of God that  surpasses all understanding.

In summary to hedonism  the “Preacher” of Ecclesiastes sought to unbridle all restraints in indulging his fleshly desires in full  pursuit of overtaking human achievement and pleasure. He had all the means he needed to achieve his ends and in view of all his time and effort under the sun of humanity his final analysis became his opening line to the book which states vanity of vanities, all is vanity.

We see this ring true even in our own day and age where the likes of the rich and famous crash and burn and yet these are the very lifestyles hedonism seems to promote and like the serpent in the midst of the garden it is all a lie or at best a half truth which masquerades itself as the ideology of “Self Fulfillment.”

We are privileged as Americans to have all the benefits and luxuries that a modern society can offer and we have more in the 21st century than 99% of what others have  had over the course of human history and still we have psych wards, prisons, and our medical staff are catering to the needs of a over-medicated population. So much for the pursuit of happiness on this evolutionary scale of existence.

I am convinced that happiness cannot be achieved through the  pursuit of unadulterated  selfish gratification.

Some people fall of the wagon early in life because they have a fatalistic viewpoint to their inability of not being able to obtain their dreams of happiness and death to them seems to be a reasonable option in escaping the pain of living life.

Others fall off only to get back on singing “Somewhere over the Rainbow” and thinking that the wagon will finally drive them towards the destination of their dreams.

This life within the realm of “happiness” promises so much but in the end it leaves you lonely, empty, and bankrupt and those who say otherwise are like the addict who is in denial and has developed a  codependency with the god of Hedonism.

In conclusion the writer of Ecclesiastes  after experiencing every man made indulgence took inventory of the whole matter and issued a enlightened statement  to fear God and keep his commandments for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment including every hidden thing whether it is good or evil.

This man through his life was by definition the embodiment of wisdom having experienced the grandeur of human existence.

Will  you heed the call of the “Preacher” in his wisdom or will you be entertained through the songs of fools who sing to the melody of eat, drink, and be merry for tomorrow we die. Even if we succeed in achieving a degree of happiness through the expression of our transgressions the scripture finally warns us that the pleasures of sin is only for a season and yet the flip side to this equation is that when a person receives the riches of God’s grace in the “Now” they can obtain something of great worth which will last throughout all eternity.

Mormon Doctrine

Friday, September 11th, 2009

When exploring the contents of Mormon teaching there is a conglomeration of various beliefs that are interposed between biblical Christianity and error leaving this movement with a distortion of syncretistic values.

This makes it difficult for a seeker to wade through the quagmire of thought especially if they don’t understand biblical orthodoxy and are ignorant or unaware of the cultish teachings associated with the Latter Day Saints movement.

When potential converts are approached by Mormon missionaries they may appear or come across as being like any other Christian denomination and they will avoid controversial subjects or anything blatantly aberrant to a Christian worldview.

Also they might  emphasize  morality and family values which are great assets but this should never be exchanged in supplanting the truth of God.

I have heard someone say that the best lie is 99% true but in this case the percentage would be much lower if a person was well acquainted with the facts. Falsehood can often be disguised and paraded as truth if a person knows how to properly conceal its controversy.

When I was confronted by Mormons they did not bring up anything that was questionable in nature and the deceptive part is that they used common biblical language while utilizing their own definitional approach and application to these terms of faith which are contrary to sacred usage.

This unsuspected approach of gullibility allows them to prey upon and victimize their entourage of new members.

To start with I am not going to assimilate an exhaustive and comprehensive list of all the false teachings of Mormonism. I have just picked a few select examples from some of their more extreme positions which are easily identifiable or discernible as being heretical by anybody who has an inkling of understanding concerning Christianity.

To begin with Mormonism has a unique position of authority and inspiration in regards to progressive revelation. For instance a new president or prophet can annul, overturn or overrule previous rulings made by former presidents or add new revelations to their portfolio of beliefs and these precepts are given the same level of authority and respect as scripture. Ironically enough these divine arrangements are sometimes altered on the basis of human opinion rather than through a direct order of God’s providential oversight.

So here is a short list of core beliefs circulated among Mormon theologians and laymen:

A. According to Mormon teaching God was once a man and therefore mankind can advance to the rank of being God or achieving Godhood therefore, they are polytheists in belief which is contrary to the central tenet of Judeo-Christian faith which expresses a monotheistic viewpoint of God based on the authority of scriptures, Deuteronomy 6:4.

B. God the Heavenly Father is viewed from a Mormon perspective as siring spirit children who in turn come to inhabit the earth as humans. So according to Mormon theology since mankind can attain or achieve the status of a God then they too will go on to populate their own planets and yet in Mark 12:24,25 the scripture discredits the notion of marriage in heaven.

C. Within Mormon teaching Jesus and Satan are related as brothers. Yet Jesus is definably God while Satan is a angelic being and these two personages are juxtaposed within the book of Hebrews.

D. Mormonism in the past has viewed “Blacks” and “Indians” as being cursed according to the “Cain” like mark of their skin color and “Blacks” were prohibited from entry into the priesthood. However, the bible claims that God is not a respecter of persons based on ethnicity, Galatians 3:26-29.

The restriction to the priesthood has now been overruled by another president with a more contemporary ruling of inclusion.

E.  Mormon doctrine states that Jesus was a polygamist and married both Mary and Martha at the wedding in Cana and He likewise fathered children as well.

There is no biblical data that would support this viewpoint or even suggest that Jesus was married. This sounds more like a precursor to the mythological production of the DaVinci Code.

F.  Mormons have a universalistic viewpoint of humanity as corporately inheriting eternal life while avoiding the pitfalls of the biblical definition of hell. Their concept of hell is a purgatorial existence of temporal suffering which ultimately will land the individual on one of lower tiers of heavenly existence unless of course you commit the unpardonable sin by apostating the movement at which point you would then inherit the hellish habitation of Satan.

That would scare the hell out of anybody who thought about leaving the organization. Revelations 21:8 gives a more accurate definition regarding the concept of hell in contrast to the position of the LDS.

G. The teachings of the Mormons would disregard Jesus atoning death as being totally efficacious or sufficient in securing salvation.

According to them in order for someone to achieve the upper realm or echelon of the Celestial Kingdom one must exercise certain rites to gain this privilege of entrance and to be counted worthy to possess ones own worldly rule and reign as an elitist.

To be a benefactor of this privilege one must secure exclusive membership and baptism within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Alongside of this you would have to tithe to the organization, attending weekly sacrament meetings, support the Mormon prophet, perform temple works, abstaining from alcohol, tobacco, and caffeine as well as playing an active role or part in the support of the organization.

However, salvation according to New Testament theology is awarded on the premise of having faith in Christ alone regardless of works which are only an outworking of our salvation instead of the source. Ephesians 2: 8-10.

H. Also in addition to the King James Version of the bible  Mormonism recognizes the inclusion of several books or supplementary texts that are added to their library of gnosticism such as the “Book of Mormon”, “Doctines and Covenants”, and the “Pearl of Great Price.”

Yet in Rev 22:18 and Deuteronomy 4:2 God warns about revisional changes made to the Word of God by either adding or subtracting from its content.

Not only has Mormonism added their own edition to the Word of God but Joseph Smith took the liberty to manipulate the bible by making over 600 corrections.

I. You may wonder why the LDS has such great genealogical records and this has to do with the baptism of the dead by proxy which grants the deceased the benefit of becoming Mormons.

The bible concludes that after a man dies then he is to face the judgment and there is no second chance beyond the boundaries of  the grave. Hebrews 9:27

Lastly these are just a few things when considering the helter skelter theology behind the LDS movement. I would encourage you before signing up for membership to do some serious research on this organization before you are willing to commit your eternal soul to the prophetic agency of its founders and protectors.

If you are already a member it would behoove you to reexamine the claims to your identity within this hodge podge of belief based upon the apostolic authority of Joseph Smith and his predecessors.

One last thing, I apologize if I have overstated my case through my pointed and direct language. Forgive me if I have ridiculed this institution of which you hold as being sacred. I just wanted to offer you a serious challenge to either reassert your position or  by proving me right regarding these allegations. I just hope and pray that you will commit yourself to follow the evidence wherever it may lead you.

Finally, 2 Corinthians 11 contains a teaching on false apostles and it is summarized in verses 13-15 by stating:

13 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. 15 It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.

The Book of Abraham

Monday, September 7th, 2009

The “Book of Abraham” is another fraudulent work perpetrated by the self acclaimed prophet Joseph Smith as a part of his compilations in the formation of the cult of Mormon and is included within the writings of the “Pearl of Great Price”.

The “Book of Abraham” was acquired by Smith through a traveling mummy exhibition and once again Joseph went to work with his deceptive skills in interpreting the Egyptian papyri which included the images of 3 facsimiles.

This book, according to its contents, is said to have been written by Abraham concerning his life and his vision concerning the cosmos and at the time of this transliteration, Egyptology was just being developed and therefore Smith’s translation could not be readily challenged.

However, today there is not one Egyptologists that recognizes the credibility to Smith’s interpretation of this text.

In addition to this, these hieroglyphics never mention the name of Abraham at all and in actuality what this papyri was representing here were the funerary texts as outlined in the “Book of the Dead” and the “Book of Breathings.”

Another interesting aspect concerning this papyri is that this ancient document originated around the first century BC which postdates Abraham’s existence by about 1500 years.

In conclusion the evidence is overwhelming and yet today Mormonism has either refused the evidence by means of ignorance or deception in regards to these heretical teachings.

Finally in Ephesians 5:6,7 it says 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. 7 Therefore do not be partners with them.
